We urge clients to be a little more vigilant as the cost of living crisis escalates. According to the Office for National Statistics, 93% of adults in Great Britain reported an increase in their cost of living in August and September 2022. Unfortunately, in such uncertain times when costs are increasing for us all, there will be a correlation in people having to resort to criminal activities to make ends meet.
Higher value properties and vehicles may be targeted more so clients should make sure to keep their valuables in safes and take extra care. Pre-Covid data from the ONS also shows that 58% of burglaries occur when someone is at home therefore it’s important to make sure that the property perimeter is secured and that doors and windows are secure in rooms that are not being used.
Home security systems can be programmed for rooms and windows so it’s a good idea to alarm areas of the house that are unoccupied. We recommend that clients should have security cameras and alarms to help prevent and deter would-be burglars. Research from North Carolina University showed that a security system and security camera would deter up to 60% of burglars.
